The Blurb of Bob, Volume 4, Number 3

January 21, 2021

HEY, FAM!

Can you believe 2020 is finally over? After pretty much everything was cancelled in the longest year ever, we’re looking especially forward to Pre-Heat 2021. Of course, we’re monitoring the COVID-19 situation just as much as you are to make sure it’s safe when we meet again. With a vaccine getting rolled out, though, we’re just a little bit hopeful.

Meanwhile, Burnt Oranges has been hard at work planning Pre-Heat 2021, and they gave me all of the newest intel! Read on to get the latest updates.

In this issue:

  1. Virtual Town Hall Social
  2. Event Planning Committee Survey
  3. New Art Committee
  4. COVID-19 Considerations
  5. In Memory of Johnny Fractals
  6. Spark the Art Updates coming soon!

Virtual Town Hall Social

The first virtual town hall for the community is being planned for January 2021. This will be a virtual social gathering and an opportunity for you to meet both your Board of Directors and Event Planning Committee members. Please answer question three in the below survey for which date works best for you. Also, please email your questions, concerns, thoughts, topics, or ideas to be a presenter to the Event Planning Committee email:

Event Planning Committee Survey

Your Event Planning Committee would like your input on a couple of items to assist them in making decisions that best benefit your participation. Please take a couple of minutes to answer the three questions on the below survey related to Burning Art and Volunteer Appreciation. Thank you!

New Art Committee

The Board is looking for 5 individuals to join our new Art Committee. This is a year-long commitment that includes not only the awarding of grants for our regional events, but also supports grants and art displays within our communities. If you have a passion for art, we invite you to help with Burnt Oranges’ mission to cultivate interactive art by serving on the Burnt Oranges Art Committee.

If you would like to be considered for the Art Committee, please email the following to  before January 13 (we would like to have the committee’s first meeting in January):

Legal name:
Preferred name:
Contact information:
Please share any previous art, grant, volunteer or leadership experience:
Approximately how many Preheat/Afterburns have you attended?:
Why do you want to join the Art Committee?:

Do you have any questions for us?:

COVID-19 Considerations

One of the continuing initiatives of the board is open communication and building community. That’s why they told me they’ll only be moving forward with Pre-Heat 2021 if it is safe to do so. Rest assured, they’re staying up-to-date on all of the science, and will make an informed decision when the time calls for it.

As we all continue to do our best to follow all the guidelines from WHO and CDC, stay home, wash your hands, practice social distancing, and shelter in place. We hope that each of you are taking the absolute best care of yourselves and your families, and hope our entire community is as safe as possible in these times.

In Memory of Johnny Fractals

Our community has suffered another loss of a fellow burner, friend, brother, father, fiancee, and son. Johnny Menth, who many of us knew as Johnny Fractals, recently passed away unexpectedly.  Our love and support go out to all who are feeling this enormous loss, and we would like to share the GoFundMe setup to assist Johnny’s family.

Johnny lived brightly and boldly. He was a warrior with a brilliant mind and beautiful outlook on life. His spirit will live on through each of us. We want to ensure that his daughter Skylar has every opportunity to pursue her goals.

Donations will cover cremation costs and the remaining will go towards Skylar’s immediate needs.

Spark the Art Updates coming soon!

Thank you to all of the wonderful Spark the Art contributions! We have received some super cool submissions, and I’ll share some of those with you in my next blurb. I promise!

Thanks for reading… and for making art, supporting art, and being a part of our community! Feel free to send me any updates.
