The Blurb of Bob, Volume 4, Number 2

November 18, 2020

HEY, FAM!

It’s finally getting chilly outside, which usually reminds me of AfterBurn. But since that’s not happening this year for safety reasons, I prefer to think about Pre-Heat 2021. As you know, Camp La Llanada has had some upgrades, so Pre-Heat 2021 could be one of our best burns yet. We’re monitoring the COVID-19 situation just as much as you are to make sure it’s safe when we meet again, too.

Meanwhile, Burnt Oranges has a group of deeply dedicated volunteers who are not in a bubble, and they want t been hard at work planning Pre-Heat 2021, and they gave me all of the newest intel! Read on to get the latest updates.

In this issue:

  1. Who has the most Pre-Heat and AfterBurn memorabilia? Now we know!
  2. Remembering Asa Semp, who we tragically lost.
  3. COVID-19 Considerations
  4. Pre-Heat 2021 Event Planning Committee
  5. Spark the Art Updates coming soon!
  6. Are you ready? Here’s the theme for Pre-Heat 2021

Who has the most PreHeat and AfterBurn memorabilia? Now we know!

Remember how I said I decorated my whole house in AfterBurn and Pre-Heat swag? Well, for as much as I thought I had a lot of keepsakes from my favorite burns, my friend Reverend Jackassholio sure impressed me! Check out all of his loot!

Remembering Asa Semp, who we tragically lost

As many of you know, the Florida burn community lost one of our own on September 24, 2020. A valued member of Rangers, as well as DOGs and CATS teams, Asa was always there when needed. He was an incredible fire performer who always pushed the limit — and was a hell of nice guy, too. Asa touched many lives and will be missed by all. See you on the other side, friend. I’ll remember you as we burn in April of 2021, and you should too.

COVID-19 Considerations

One of the continuing initiatives of the board is open communication and building community. That’s why they told me they’ll only be moving forward with Pre-Heat 2021 if it is safe to do so. Rest assured, they’re staying up-to-date on all of the science, and will make an informed decision when the time calls for it.

As we all continue to do our best to follow all the guidelines from WHO and CDC, stay home, wash your hands, practice social distancing, shelter in place. We hope that each of you are taking the absolute best care of yourselves and your families and for our entire community to be as safe as possible in these times.

Pre-Heat 2021 Event Planning Committee

We’ve put together a survey to gauge community interest in an AfterBurn event. Please take a couple of minutes to complete this quick survey and let us know where you stand on As you probably heard, Pre-Heat 2021 has a pretty rad event committee. Additionally, they told me that KC Allen, Amber “Stardust” Haley, Tama Lutzker, Gabriel “Swami G” Rothblatt, and Whitney Smith had a great first meeting last week. Can you imagine a cooler crew?

Spark the Art Updates coming soon!

Thank you to all of the wonderful Spark the Art contributions! We have received some super cool submissions, and I’ll share some of those with you in my next blurb. If 2020 has taught me anything, it’s that I have more time to make art!

We need your help to continue to spread the Spark about the available art grants.  Share far and wide among your family and friends, not just the Burner community.

Some of the grants funded include Acrylic Paint Pours, Paintings, Glass Marbles, Digital Art, Music, and Dance. (Photo: “The Golden Hour,” a Spark the Art project)

Are you ready? Here’s the theme for Pre-Heat 2021

The event committee has decided on the theme for Pre-Heat 2021! After considering several ideas, nothing feels more fitting than Reincarnation: Rise of the Phoenix.

Thanks for reading… and for making art, supporting art, and being a part of our community! Feel free to send me any updates.

How ’bout that?
