The Blurb of Bob, Volume 6, Number 8

Four weeks to go!

Volume 6, Number 8
October 6, 2023

Greetings Burnt Oranges community,

We’re just one month out from AfterBurn 2023! That’s why we’re coming in hot with a bonus blurb with info you’re going to want to know about. For one, there’s a cold front on the way this weekend and we’re absolutely stoked about it! But more importantly, we have some updates to share about tickets, art, theme camps, and more.

Moving right along. Here’s what you’ll find in this newsletter.

  1. Volunteer Signups and a Special Directed OMG Ticket Sale
  2. Ticket Information Update
  3. Art Placement Request
  4. A Note for Theme Camps Who Have Reserved a Cabin
  5. Who What Where Guide Submissions
  6. Theme Camp Registration Closes Soon

Volunteer Signups and a Special Directed OMG Ticket Sale
As of this Blurb, we have a 42.9% volunteer sign-up for all Non-Core Adult tickets sold. If you have your ticket but have not signed up for a volunteer shift, please go here and sign-up for your volunteer shift. Volunteering is participating.

So, we are going to try something a little different around volunteer sign-ups and an OMG ticket sale. We have 59 critical shifts for Gate, Rangers (overnight Friday & Saturday 8 pm to 8 am), Sanctuary, and CATS Purrimeter (Effigy and Temple) that are unfilled.

We are opening an OMG Directed tier on Saturday October 7, 2023 at 12 pm with 59 tickets at a cost of $210.00. You will have until Monday, October 16, 2023 at 11:55 pm to buy for your ticket. How will you get your ticket?

You will email  with your name, phone number, team and shift date and time you want to fill. Go here to see all open shifts. (Please fill a critical shift if you are able but we will honor any team/shift request in the spirit of participation and radical inclusion.)

The Volunteer Coordinator will then sign you up for your requested shift and email you a code to buy your ticket. You will only be able to buy one ticket and you must purchase your ticket by Monday, October 16, 2023 11:55 pm.

FAQ:

Can I sign-up for a shift on the website and then email the volunteer team? We are asking that you email the volunteer team with your request so that they can sign you up to make it easier for our hard-working volunteer team to validate your shift and get you your code in a timely manner.

When will I get my code to buy my ticket? We will do our best to reply to all requests within 24 hours, but keep in mind we are all volunteers. Please do not send multiple emails as this will take time away from our volunteers to answer emails in a timely manner.

How many tickets have been sold? As of this Blurb, we have sold 191 Non-Core Adult tickets. Including Core, Minions, and General Participants we have sold 218 tickets.

Will there be another ticket sale after this special OMG sale? If we get more sign-ups with critical shifts filled, we might extend the OMG sale to anyone.

Ticket Information Update
Your ticket to AfterBurn 2023 does not have to be in the name of the ticket holder. The ticket holder just needs to have the ticket saved to their phone for gate to scan and a proper ID. Don’t forget your vehicle and RV passes.

Also, complete your waiver here for AfterBurn 2023. It’s easy-peasy, we promise. Do it before you arrive. Don’t wait until you arrive at the gate as you will be taken out of line to complete it, which will delay getting you into the event — and that’s no fun.

Art Placement Request
Artists who need placement of their art outside of their theme camp, be sure to let  know of your needs. They will work with you for the best placement and enjoyment of your art.

A Note for Theme Camps Who Have Reserved a Cabin

Theme Camps that have reserved a cabin, be sure to let  know your cabin assignment if you want placement near your cabin. Placement cannot be guaranteed near your cabin, but they will do their best to accommodate.

Who What Where Guide Submissions
Are you planning a super cool event at AfterBurn 2023? Maybe you’re serving wine and cheese, or you’re offering tarot readings? Perhaps you’re serving Cuban sandwiches on Friday night before Parade Brigade kicks off the event, or you’re having a gator wrestling contest? Whatever it is, we want to know about it. /" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Email me. If you want to make sure there’s no conflict before you submit, register your deets here and email me when you have your scheduling locked down.

Theme Camp Registration Closes Soon

September is already more than halfway over!

Volume 6, Number 7
September 21, 2023

Greetings Burnt Oranges community,

For those of you who went to Raining Man to frolic on the WAP, welcome back! Hats off to the folks who made mud sculptures that gave Florida beach sculpting a run for its money. For those of us who didn’t go, we still have some items to report: We survived Hurricane Idalia, mourned the news that Publix is no longer selling hurricane cakes, and enjoyed at least two mornings when the humidity dropped to the point that it whispers: Autumn is in the air.

It’s still hot as all get out, though, and we need more rain, so get to work petitioning any deities you have a direct line to.

Aight, enough small talk about the weather. Here’s what you’ll find in this newsletter.

If immediate removal is required for the safety of the event, Rangers will escalate the matter to the Board. The Board takes the Code of Conduct very seriously, as well as all reports of violations.

Our first blurb of the season!

Volume 6, Number 1
February 15, 2023

Greetings Burnt Oranges community!
It’s been such a beautiful winter season, with low humidity and sunny days putting us in a great mood. We’ve been hearing a lot about superb owls lately, for some reason, but we don’t mind. They are some fine specimens, especially the handful of species that call the sunshine state home.
We also hope you and your valentine had a nice day yesterday, even if you were the one who bought yourself flowers. You deserve them!

Very well then, here’s what you’ll find in this newsletter.

  1. Dates and Theme for AfterBurn 2023

Call for Logo for AfterBurn 2023
Since we have a date and theme for AfterBurn 2023, we’re going to need a logo to celebrate the awesomeness! Please submit your artwork to  by March 31, 2023 for consideration. Message from the Board
Please join us as we offer huge thanks and gratitude to Robl, Katnip and Jay for their Board service! Their terms end at the end of the month and we are grateful for their help. They will be founding members of our newest Council of OWLS as advisors to the Board and Organization.

What is it that engages YOU in the Central Florida Burner community? Is it the art? Is it the people?
From March 17 to 19, the folks from Indaba Willage are gathering to address that question. We’re creating a family-friendly event at a state park just north of Brooksville, Florida and inviting 20 members of the community to join us with their sketchbooks and ideas. We’ll brainstorm about art, exchange ideas, dream big, make lanterns, and eat yummy pie.
The cost of the camping is our gift to you, but you will need to reserve your spot! Due to the location, this is a dry event with no alcohol or intoxicants, and all fires will be confined to a fire ring.
If this sounds interesting, please visit the web page and reach out to us using the form there: https://1meps.com/intents/

Thanks for reading… and for making art, supporting art, and being a part of our community! Feel free to send me any updates.

This is also the last blurb before the burn, so we have some important deets and treats for ya.

AfterBurn 2022 What Where When Guide

Thank you all for your submissions to the What Where When guide, which you can access here. There are tons of fun events, and we’re even more stocked about AfterBurn 2022 now.

Martian Disco Skate Party
Jupiter’s Arcade is calling all citizens of Afterburn to help with the Laser Abduction happening in the Mall over the weekend! Martians will be launching an assault of lasers, lights, fog, and disco music to hypnotize us beautiful burners. If you have any lasers of your own, please bring them to set up on the other side of the Mall, and show those Martians on stage we are strong and have lots of pretty lights too.

Martians can more easily read our minds and track our movements when we move slow and orderly. So for Friday night (and maybe Saturday night too), Jupiter’s Arcade is asking all participants to join together for a Martian Disco Skate Dance Party! Bring your dancing feet, roller skates, roller blades, skateboards, hoverboards, scooters, bikes, and anything else with wheels to keep us all moving around in an ordered chaos. We only ask that you sign a liability waiver list in case those Space Invaders cause you damage.
